Second, a long list of topics is coming…
Today’s Topics
C-2A Greyhound Retired
Sadly, the C-2A Greyhound has been retired. First, no longer is there a true Grumman platform in US Naval Aviation any longer. Second, well this below post on X correctly articulates the experience:
Final MV-22B Built for US Marines
Bell & Boeing have completed the 359th and last MV-22B Osprey for the US Marine Corps. 11 MV-22Bs have been lost in incidents. Meanwhile, 11 more CMV-22Bs for the US Navy are still being built.
Canada Update
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) IF RCAF Gets Gripens…
Yes, there are plans in the works if the Royal Canadian Air Force gets JAS-39E Gripens. CAE will be partnering with Saab.

According to the Saab statement,
CAE would be responsible for operating and sustaining advanced Gripen training systems in Canada. This includes the development of Canadian-specific simulator capabilities and the delivery of live aircraft and technical training by Canadian personnel.
The collaboration would also establish CAE at the centre of critical sovereign capabilities in Canada for the development and management of sensitive operational and mission systems information. Canadian engineers and specialists would perform classified mission systems work, including systems design, software development, verification, and integration activities - ensuring that Canadian and NORAD-related information remains in Canada and under Canadian control.
Still doesn’t address RCAF capacities previously discussed… or downshifting from F-35 capabilities.
RCAF Joining GCAP
Yes, Canada’s an “observer” on the only truly international 6th Generation fighter jet program. According to the official announcement this means,
Observer status will provide Canada with enhanced insight into GCAP and an opportunity to deepen its understanding of the Programme’s governance, capabilities and industrial framework, as well as the related security requirements and wider partnering opportunities.
For Italy, Japan and the UK, Canada’s involvement will also support greater alignment of strategic priorities and deepen mutual understanding of future combat air ambitions, thereby strengthening global security.
Since the Programme’s inception, GCAP has been founded on the principle that international collaboration delivers significant benefits. In a complex global security environment, Italy, Japan, and the UK have remained committed to engaging with trusted allies and partners to strengthen the Programme and maximise its long-term strategic impact.
Boeing F-47 Update
Speaking of 6th Gen fighter jets… There’s several updates on the Boeing F-47 front. The first is this Pratt & Whitney conceptual drawing is going around as their Next Generation Adaptive Propulsion (NGAP) engine is coming out in 2030. Two years after the F-47 makes an initial flight:

Boeing also teased this out via Sam Eckholm…

Sam Eckholm Gets to Fly in a F-15EX…
Sam Eckholm, currently of “Access Granted”, got to fly in a Boeing F-15EX. The YouTube explains why in an era of low observable fighter jets the F-15 is still relevant.
F-15Es (and -EXs) to Replace A-10s?
Sounds likely. Already Whiteman AFB’s A-10 reserve unit is going to be getting F-15Es as a replacement. Then there’s the fact the Oregon Air National Guard’s F-15EX recently tested loading bombs in Oregon. According to Air Force Times:
Crews loaded concrete-filled 500-pound BDU-50s and 2,000-pound BDU-56s, built to the size and weight of the real thing, onto the Eagle II’s hardpoints. Over 10 missions, the wing dropped 36 practice bombs, twenty-four 500-pounders and twelve 2,000-pounders, achieving satisfactory scores with zero safety incidents.

Meanwhile, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base has lost all of her A-10s:
Russia Building YAK-130Ms to be Lightweight Multi-Role Fighters
In an amazing development, the Russian Yak-130M trainer is becoming an anti-drone light fighter.
Key part with more at the link above:
The Yak-130M combines its new BRLS-130R radar, SOLT-130K electro-optical targeting system, defensive suite, and expanded weapons package to perform counter-UAS, air-policing, light strike, and maritime-security missions in all weather conditions. Together with the Su-57’s emerging role as a long-range Defensive Counter-Air interceptor, the aircraft could form the lower tier of a multi-layered response designed to improve operational flexibility while preserving advanced fighters for the most demanding missions.
Poland Offloading MiG-29s to Ukraine or Bulgaria?
Shortly after our last call, Poland reopened the deal to offload her MiG-29s to Ukraine. However, Bulgaria has expressed interest.

Who’s Buying GlobalEye AWACS
Thought I’d save this for last… first one can read the Simple Flying profile.
It’s becoming clear Saab-Bombardier’s GlobalEye is a good replacement for the E-3 Sentry, a Boeing 707 platform on its last legs.
